Ski Slide Pad
The Ski Slide Pad is manufactured by Hospital Aids and distributed in Ireland by Phoenix STS (Safety Equipment Ireland), the fire safety and health and safety consultancy and training provider.
The Ski Slide Pad is a padded evacuation mat that evolved from the well known Ski Pad. Its defining feature is a built in slide sheet fitted to both sides of the pad, so staff can slide a person across from a bed, or up from the floor, instead of lifting them. That matters most with people who need a high level of assistance during transfer, and it protects carers from manual handling injuries at the same time.
In an emergency the pad comes straight out of its wall mountable, wipe clean storage bag. The person is transferred onto the pad using the slide sheet, secured with the seat belt style webbing straps and metal buckles, and moved using the pulling handles at each end. The polyethylene base slides easily over most surfaces and remains controllable going down a staircase, while a large foot pocket stops the person sliding forward on the descent. The slide sheets can also serve as an extra cover where the evacuation continues outdoors.
