Fire House Manikin

The Fire House Manikin is manufactured by Ruth Lee Ltd and distributed exclusively in Ireland by Phoenix STS (Safety Equipment Ireland). As the authorised sole distributor for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, we provide full sales support, product guidance and after sales service.

The Fire House Manikin is Ruth Lee's specialist casualty for breathing apparatus (BA) snatch rescue and hot fire cell training. Built to balance temperature resistance against abrasion resistance, it gives fire crews a realistic casualty they can rescue repeatedly from live fire training buildings.

It withstands temperatures of around 160 degrees Celsius at floor level, and around 400 degrees Celsius at ceiling level, for prolonged periods. Like any fire kit, it will deteriorate if placed too close to naked flames or into excessive temperatures.

The carcass is flame retardant polyester conforming to BS EN ISO 15025:2002, the same specification used in police ballistic and stab vests, reinforced with 38mm meta-aramid webbing because standard polypropylene webbing goes brittle and melts at these temperatures. The overalls and separate hood are a permanently non flammable meta-aramid and para-aramid blend, reinforced with meta-aramid webbing, fastened with fire resistant ties rather than Velcro, which melts, and finished with 5mm leather at the ends of the arms, a known high wear area. Overalls and boots are replaceable consumables that extend the manikin's working life, and the separate hood makes fitting replacement coveralls considerably easier.

Anatomically correct weight distribution gives the feel of an unconscious casualty, soft body joints avoid the pinch injuries plastic bodied manikins cause, and the neck accepts an immobilisation or extrication collar so crews practise proper casualty care. It is strong enough to be buried under concrete or steel lintels, although the aramid overall is not quite as tough as the polyester used in the Duty range.

Sizes run from the 5kg baby up to 1.8m adults at 20kg, 30kg, 50kg and 70kg. Ruth Lee manikins are used by every fire and rescue service in the UK.

The Fire House Manikin is a rugged, full-body training dummy specifically developed for realistic fire and rescue training within controlled burn buildings, training towers, and firehouses. Designed to simulate the size, weight, and movement of an unconscious adult, it provides firefighters and emergency responders with a lifelike tool for practicing casualty search, rescue, and extraction under high-heat, low-visibility, and physically demanding conditions. Key Features: Heat-Resistant Construction: Made from flame-retardant and heat-tolerant materials that can endure the extreme temperatures and conditions found in live fire training environments. Realistic Weight and Proportions: Replicates a human body’s weight distribution and flexibility, allowing for realistic handling in smoke-filled or confined spaces. Durable and Impact-Resistant: Built with reinforced seams and abrasion-resistant coverings to withstand dragging, lifting, and exposure to debris and rough surfaces. Flexible Limb Movement: Jointed arms and legs simulate a real unconscious casualty, aiding in lifelike extrication, stairwell carry, or ventilation rescue exercises. Drainage and Ventilation Features: Allows the manikin to be used in wet or humid conditions without water retention or material degradation. Benefits: Enhances the realism of fire rescue drills Prepares responders for high-stress, low-visibility situations Improves team coordination, physical technique, and rescue speed Withstands repeated use in intense training environments The Fire House Manikin is an essential tool for fire departments and training academies seeking to provide realistic, hands-on experience in life-saving rescue operations.
