Duty Range Manikin
The Duty Range Manikin is manufactured by Ruth Lee Ltd and distributed exclusively in Ireland by Phoenix STS (Safety Equipment Ireland). As the authorised sole distributor for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, we provide full sales support, product guidance and after sales service.
The Duty Range is Ruth Lee's base model and the workhorse of the range: a tough, realistically weighted rescue manikin for confined space work, urban search and rescue, chemical and biological hazard scenarios, road traffic collision extrication and general handling exercises. Fire services favour it because the exterior stands up to hard, repeated training, but it is just as useful to anyone who needs a hard wearing casualty.
It is constructed from the same specification flame retardant polyester used in police ballistic and stab vests, with typically four times the strength and abrasion resistance of the 16oz canvas or PVC previously used. The material is water repellent, so wet and foul scenarios such as HAZMAT and CBRN exercises are no problem. It will survive being buried under concrete or steel lintels, driven over by a four wheel drive or dropped from a second floor window.
Anatomically correct weight distribution gives the feel of an unconscious casualty, soft body joints protect handlers from pinch injuries, a strong webbing loop allows easy handling, hauling aloft, storage and suspension for drying, and the neck of the adult manikins accepts an immobilisation or extrication collar. An optional shoutbox plays a personalised recorded message of up to 60 seconds on repeat. Boots and overalls are included; treat the overalls as a consumable that protects the manikin itself.
Sizes run from the 5kg baby to the 90kg adult, with shorter adult versions at 30kg, 50kg and 70kg where a smaller casualty is more representative. Two limits to note: the Duty withstands temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius, so use the Fire House Manikin for hot fire cells or where flashover may occur, and its normal weighting is not suitable for deep water rescue, where a water rescue manikin should be used instead.
Ruth Lee manikins are used by every fire and rescue service in the UK, are the only manikins specified by the British Ministry of Defence, with NATO stock numbers available, and serve police, ambulance, EMS and HART teams and industrial health and safety departments.
