The patient/resident who would require assistance during an evacuation should have a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEPS). The use of an Evacuation Ski Pad should be considered and equipment assessed in line with a PEEP requirement.

The Patient Evacuation Ski Pad was designed for use in confined areas, where space is limited, such as hospital wards, nursing homes, buildings with narrow staircases, escape routes, corridors or single width fire doors. The Patient Evacuation Ski Pad has evolved from the Ski Evacuation Sheet; which remain in place, attached unobtrusively under a patients/residents mattress at all times.

Complete within its wipe-clean storage bag, the Patient Evacuation Ski Pad can be wall mounted in rooms, onwards or at the head of staircases. In an emergency, the pad is easily removed from its bag by releasing the velcro strap located outside of the case, and the pad will automatically slide out.

The individual can then be transferred onto the pad, safely secured using the seatbelt style cross straps and taken to safety, even downstairs, using the head and foot end operator handles. A minimum of two people should operate the Patient Evacuation Ski Pad.

The Patient Evacuation Ski Pad is constructed using tough coated, 5cm thick foam pad, hard-wearing cotton top, high-vis webbing and NHS approved IMMI buckles (metal).

Modified versions of the Patient Evacuation Ski Pad can be produced to meet specific needs – contact us with your requirements.

Note:
  • Beware of imitations or equipment that has not received third party certification; you cannot afford your evacuation aid to fail when in use.
  • The genuine Patient Evacuation Ski Pad is fitted with seatbelt style IMMI buckles.
  • When considering the selection of an evacuation aid, it is also essential to determine the particular risks that staff may encounter utilising such equipment.
  • This includes pulling handles that are too short for staff to move safely, particularly when descending stairs.
  • Another critical element of an evacuation aid is its construction method; you need to be confident that the device you have chosen is robust, and offers protection to the patient or resident when they are being evacuated.

A product information DVD is available;  it is not intended to substitute for training as no DVD can correct handling errors or bad habits.

Certified training is also available on this product:  Evacuation Aid Training Course.

Phoenix STS is the only company in Ireland authorised to deliver “train the trainer” courses using the Evacuation Ski Pad.

Since the changes to the Fire Services Act 1981 in 2003, the Fire Service is no longer obliged to provide a “complete evacuation service” for premises, thus placing the onus upon the business owner and changes in the ‘Disability Act’ – which now states that everyone must have the same right of evacuation in an emergency.
