The Medi EvacMat has been designed to be used as an evacuation aid for a non-ambulant person in an emergency. Similar in design to that of the popular Bariatric EvacMat, the Medi-Evac Mat’s tough, slippery Polyethylene baseboard allows it to be moved easily over indoor and outdoor surfaces for both horizontal and vertical evacuation.
The Medi-Evac Mat is self-contained within its own carry case and can be wall-mounted within rooms, onwards or at refuge points for instant access in an emergency. Furthermore, its compact design makes it easy to store on emergency vehicles.
Constructed using hard-wearing Polyvinyl, the Medi EvacMat features side wings which cocoon the person to enable a greater feeling of safety and security while being moved. This is especially useful for users who may display challenging behaviour while being evacuated.
Multiple positioning handles run along all four sides of the Medi EvacMat to enable it to be manoeuvred on landings and in tight space areas. The length of the Medi EvacMat can be adjusted to suit the height of the person by using the buckled straps located at the foot end of the Mat.
Other features include head and foot end operator pulling handles, three brightly coloured securing straps, a large foot pocket and internal pillow.
Since the changes to the Fire Services Act 1981 in 2003, the Fire Service is no longer obliged to provide a “complete evacuation service” for premises, thus placing the onus upon the business owner and changes in the ‘Disability Act’ – which now states that everyone must have the same right of evacuation in an emergency.
Certified training is also available on this product: Evacuation Aid Training Course.
Phoenix STS is the only company in Ireland authorised to deliver “train the trainer” courses using the Medi EvacMat.
