Bariatric (Obese)Training Manikin
The Bariatric Training Manikin is manufactured by Ruth Lee Ltd and distributed exclusively in Ireland by Phoenix STS (Safety Equipment Ireland). As the authorised sole distributor for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, we provide full sales support, product guidance and after sales service.
Heavier casualties are now a planning reality for every sector. Hospitals, nursing homes and ambulance services need to move plus size patients safely and with dignity; fire and rescue services, airlines, ship operators and prisons all face the same challenge. The Ruth Lee Bariatric Training Manikin lets teams rehearse those moves realistically without putting a real person, or a colleague, at risk.
The realism is the point. The weight is distributed in half kilogram packets across nylon covered flame retardant foam, giving a fluidity of movement that behaves like a person rather than a rigid weight, and the anatomically correct weight distribution gives the feel of an unconscious person. The neck accepts an immobilisation or extrication collar for casualty care practice.
Construction is waterproof polyester conforming to BS EN ISO 6330, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and ISO 17050-1, padded with 25mm flame retardant polyurethane foam conforming to BS2852: Part 2: 1982. It washes down with soapy water, is strong enough to be buried under concrete or steel lintels or placed in and under vehicles, and is made in the UK under ISO 9001:2015.
Models are available at 90kg, 180kg and 260kg, plus a 50kg version that gives the visual bulk of a plus size patient without excessive weight, well suited to healthcare training and to demonstrating bariatric equipment. Rescue scenarios with the heavier models are designed for a team of at least four to six people, and the manikin is supplied with a carrying sheet rated to a safe working load of up to 600kg (LOLER certified).
For care teams, Phoenix STS also delivers people moving and handling training across Ireland, so staff can practise bariatric techniques under instruction.
